Baptist Health South Florida and Nova Southeastern University (NSU) recently joined forces to reduce the regions nursing shortage.
Baptist Health is offering NSU 80 nursing scholarships for entry-level students who are pursing a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree at NSUs nursing school. The offer aims to educate and increase the number of nurses to help meet South Floridas nursing shortage and provide nurses for the future. The scholarships will be awarded to students who have at least 30 college credits, and are accepted at NSUs nursing program. They will be given to new nursing students each year. Recipients will be able to complete their BSN degree in 27 months. After graduation, they will be required to work at one of Baptist Health South Floridas hospitals for the next three years as part of their obligation. NSU will offer classes at South Miami Hospital, which is convenient for south Miami-Dade County residents and the Baptist Health hospital network. South Miami Hospital was named a “Magnet Hospital” for Excellence in Nursing through 2008 by the American Nurses Association. Those who are accepted to NSUs nursing program, are eligible to apply for the Baptist Health scholarships. The inaugural class will begin August 27, 2007, with a second class starting in January 2008.
