Barry University has established a Division of Medicine, to include BUs School of Graduate Medical Sciences and its School of Podiatric Medicine, President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD, recently announced.
Dr. Chet Evans will lead the division as the universitys current vice president for medical affairs, and will also serve in the position of dean of the School of Podiatric Medicine. A new dean for graduate medical sciences has yet to be appointed. “The designation of Barrys Division of Medicine is a natural step in our universitys growth,” Bevilacqua said. “Barry University has a fine tradition throughout South Florida of educating caring medical professionals in podiatric medicine, public health and physician assistant studies, and devotes considerable resources to providing quality medical education. This infrastructure will facilitate the future addition of other appropriate medical education programs within the University as we seek to expand this area of excellence.” The School of Graduate Medical Sciences will house: BUs physician assistant and public health programs; the Institute for Community Health and Minority Medicine; the department of basic medical sciences; and graduate degrees in the medical sciences.
