Broward County’s public/private partner for economic development has honored a Nova Southeastern University faculty member for excellence and continued dedication to new discoveries in dentistry and oral biology.
The Broward Alliance recognized Franklin Garcia-Godoy, associate dean for research and director of the Bioscience Research Center at NSUs College of Dental Medicine, as a “sterling example of worldclass leadership in Broward County and throughout South Florida.”
Through a four-year, $1 million grant, Garcia-Godoy is working to develop new screening methods to speed the process and avoid animal experimentation for determining the safety of biomaterials, medicaments, implants and treatments used in dental medicine search.
During the past four years, Garcia-Godoy has secured more than $2.5 million in research funding for a wide range of projects including dental product testing, biomaterials development, and the creation of stem cells and tissue engineering therapies.
Garcia-Godoy collaborates with researchers worldwide to develop new dental products, as well as helping to train and educate thousands of dentists who serve communities across the United States. Garcia-Godoy earned a masters degree in dentistry, from the University of Illinois at Chicago; a D.D.S. Cum Laude, from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo; and a bachelors in biology/philosophy, from the Colegio San Luis Gonzaga.
