In 2025, Broward Health continued to transform healthcare delivery across Broward County, breaking barriers and expanding access through visionary partnerships, cutting-edge technology, innovative programs and new facilities. This was a year of unmatched commitment to transforming care for every member of our community.

Strengthening Communities Through Collaborative Programs

One of the most significant milestones of the year was the launch of Better Together, a historic partnership between Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System developed to address the county’s most pressing primary and maternal healthcare needs while also targeting food insecurity. Its impact and vision were recognized with the Outstanding Healthcare Collaboration Award from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.

“Through ingenuity, strategic partnership and determination, Better Together is revolutionizing primary and maternity care for our community,” said Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health and interim CEO of Memorial Healthcare System.

Furthering the effort to close gaps in care, Broward HealthPoint, an affiliate of Broward Health, launched Stay Healthy Together, a comprehensive preventative and primary care initiative. Beginning in the City of Lauderdale Lakes, the mobile health unit provided eight weeks of on-site services before continuing its rotation to the City of Pompano Beach. The mobile health units will continue to travel to different cities to ensure patient-centered primary care is available where residents live, work and gather.

Broward Health achieved significant financial milestones that reflect the system’s continued commitment to operational excellence and long-term stability. S&P Global Ratings upgraded its long-term rating on Broward Health’s 2017B revenue bonds from A- to A+. The two-rating upgrade from S&P is a rare achievement that underscores significant improvements in Broward Health’s financial stability and operational performance.

Fitch Ratings assigned an A+ Issuer Default Rating to the North Broward Hospital District, which operates as Broward Health, and assigned an A+ long-term rating to Broward Health’s 2017B revenue bonds. Fitch also upgraded the outlook to positive, reflecting continued confidence in the system’s financial strength.

In FY25, Broward Health served 1,172,133 patients, a 4.3% increase over the previous fiscal year. Broward Health Physician Group office visits increased 13.8%, pharmacy visits increased 6.3% and primary care visits increased 23.7%.

Advancing Technology and Elevating Patient Care

Innovation remained at the forefront in 2025 as Broward Health invested in expanding and modernizing medical technology across the system.

At Broward Health Medical Center, two major advancements were unveiled. The hospital opened its new Advanced Training Simulation Lab, featuring the HAL S3201 multipurpose patient simulator. This high-fidelity technology recreates real-world medical scenarios, allowing teams to practice lifesaving interventions in a safe, controlled environment.

The 716-bed hospital also opened a state-of-the-art interventional radiology lab, equipped with the Canon Alphenix Sky Plus with the HD76 detector. Broward Health is the first in South Florida to utilize this advanced imaging platform, which supports complex, minimally invasive procedures across multiple specialties.

Broward Health North expanded its cardiovascular services with the opening of an 11,600-square-foot cardiac catheterization suite designed to meet the growing demand for electrophysiology care in North Broward.

At Broward Health Coral Springs, the hospital opened a new $16 million medical-surgical and step-down intermediate recovery unit on the fourth floor of the south tower.

The 87-year-old health system solidified its role in surgical innovation, becoming the first system in Broward County to offer the latest Stryker Mako 4 robotic surgical system. The technology, available at Broward Health Imperial Point and Broward Health North, enhances precision for total hip, total knee and partial knee procedures.

Expanding the System Footprint to Meet Community Needs

To meet Broward County’s growing population, the safety-net hospital system is building three new freestanding emergency departments, located in Lighthouse Point, Sunrise and Fort Lauderdale, with an expected opening in 2026 and 2027. Alongside the new emergency departments, Broward Health is building medical office facilities countywide to meet growing healthcare needs.

• Fort Lauderdale: Broward Health Medical Center is developing an eight-story, 188,000-square-foot medical office building and parking garage that will feature 129 exam rooms.
  • Deerfield Beach: Broward Health North is adding a six-story, 114,000-square-foot medical office building with 75 exam rooms, along with a seven-story, 300,000-square-foot parking garage.
  • Oakland Park: A three-story, 16,000-square-foot medical building is being renovated into a modern medical office building.
  • Parkland: Broward Health has acquired a 7-acre parcel for the future development of an outpatient center and additional medical facilities.
