Broward Health Imperial Point (BHIP) is the first hospital in Broward County to offer a total hysterectomy with single-site incision, a minimally invasive scar-less surgical option using the da Vinci® Xi Surgical System. The surgery was performed on Friday, August 19th by Dr. Lanalee Sam, OB/GYN.

Total laparoscopic hysterectomy (or TLH) is the removal of the uterus and the cervix by operating through several small cuts in the abdominal wall that provide access to remove the uterus. The surgical procedure, which is done on an outpatient basis, can take approximately one to three hours to perform. TLH provides many benefits to patients, including less blood loss, lowered risk of urinary incontinence, shorter hospital stay and shorter recovery time,

The da Vinci Xi is a tool that utilizes advanced, robotic technologies to assist surgeons during operations. It does not act on its own, but is controlled by a robotic-trained surgeon. The da Vinci Xi can be used across a broad spectrum of minimally-invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery.
