November 29, 2023 – Nurse managers from Broward Health Medical Center recently hosted a special ceremony to recognize exceptional doctors from their unit at the inaugural Physician Champion event.
“The nominated physicians demonstrated an unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and patient experience,” said Donna Small, RN, BSN, MBA, chief nursing officer for Broward Health Medical Center.

The commemoration resembled a white coat ceremony, but instead, the nurse managers had the opportunity to present a memorable white coat to the physician chosen from their unit with a message imprinted that read “Physician Champion.”
“These physicians understand the value of the partnership with nursing, recognizing their vital role in patient care,” said Small. “They have fostered an environment of open communication and shared decision-making, ensuring that patient care remains at the center of our efforts.”
Prior to the end of the event, a toast was made celebrating the physicians. The celebration included their past achievements and their bright futures as physician champions as they continue to foster a culture of trust and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
“This event served as a powerful symbol of the medical profession’s nobility and strong collaboration with nursing,” said James Roach, chief of emergency medicine for Broward Health. “Together, through dedication and collaboration, we create a bright future for all.”
