Broward Health Medical Center hosted a free, interactive lung cancer awareness event focused on early detection and diagnosis, featuring the ION robotic bronchoscopy system.
Premedical students from American Heritage High School and fifth graders from Christian Life Academy gained hands-on experience with the technology.
The Ion robotic bronchoscopy system was housed inside the Thoracic Oncology Mobile Experience, or TOME truck, an 18-wheel, 80,000-pound interactive laboratory designed to bring advanced robotic systems and instruments to hospitals nationwide.
Broward Health Medical Center is the first hospital in Broward County to establish a multidisciplinary program between interventional pulmonary and thoracic surgery, allowing patients to move from initial detection to biopsy to surgery on the same day, compared with the national average of six months.
