The Topera® Physiologic Rotor Mapping Solution is the first proven technology available to identify the location of rotors that sustain atrial fibrillation. When used with interventional catheter ablation, the Topera Solution guides treatment by identifying only those areas that have rotors, with the goal of improving long-term outcomes.

 

Rotors are similar to small tornados in various locations of the heart that spark and maintain disorganized electrical impulses in a spiral wave pattern and cause irregular heartbeat activity; rotors are considered the “eye of the storm” where these irregular impulses originate. Rotor identification has shown that difficult-to-treat cases with persistent atrial fibrillation consistently have more rotors present in the right and/or left atrium, yet current interventional ablation treatment uses the same approach in only the left atrium.

 

During the procedure, Ahmed F. Osman, MD, medical director of the cardiac electrophysiology laboratories at Broward Health Medical Center, performs FIRM-Guided Therapy to aid in the treatment of a patient with a serious heart rhythm disorder known as atrial fibrillation (AFib).
