Broward Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Cornelius Powell, M.D., MBA, CHCQM, as the new chief medical officer of Broward Health North.

Most recently, Dr. Powell served as vice president and chief medical officer of Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Virginia. Prior to this role, Dr. Powell held several senior leadership positions, including regional medical director and vice president of operations for American Physician Partners. He also served in leadership roles at Tucson Medical Center and John Peter Smith Hospital.

Serving in the United States Army as a Special Forces medic, Dr. Powell completed deployments in Iraq and the Philippines while leading medical operations and training initiatives in high-pressure environments.

Dr. Powell earned his Doctor of Medicine from East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at Carolinas Medical Center. He also holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
