August 26, 2025- Broward HealthPoint, in partnership with the City of Pompano Beach, celebrated the launch of the “Stay Healthy Together” initiative held recently at Mitchell Moore Park, bringing together hundreds of residents for a day of health, wellness and community connection.
“Our healthcare system is committed to extending care far beyond the walls of our hospitals, bringing care closer to where residents live,” said Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health. “Through our mobile units and by collaborating with local municipalities, we are changing the healthcare delivery model.”
Stay Healthy Together is a comprehensive community health initiative designed to bring preventative and primary care services directly into Broward County neighborhoods. The multi-layered effort aims to remove barriers to healthcare access and improve health outcomes for families across the region.

“We are truly invested in building a healthier Pompano Beach by making healthcare more accessible to everyone,” said Melida Akiti, Corporate Transformation Executive at Broward Health. “Too many of our neighbors face barriers to care, and this initiative is about breaking down those barriers.”

Broward HealthPoint’s mobile units for children and adults provide free health screenings and school physicals. Residents also have the opportunity to participate in educational workshops covering topics from creating birthing plans to car seat safety to managing hypertension and visit with community partners including 211 Broward, Area Agency on Aging, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County, the American Heart Association and others who shared wraparound services to support the community’s needs.
At a recent event, children enjoyed face painting and art activities. In addition, 600 bags of nutritious food were distributed, and 700 hot lunches were served. Local dignitaries in attendance included Florida State Senator Tina Polsky, Broward County Commissioner Lamar Fisher and Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin, Pompano Beach District 4 Commissioner Beverly Perkins, Vice Mayor Alison Fournier and Commissioner Audrey Fesik. Legislative aides from Representative Mitch Rosenwald’s office also attended.
“Working together, we’re changing the way we deliver primary and maternal services while also addressing food insecurity,” Strum said. “It’s an excellent example of what’s possible when community organizations unite to create real change for the people we serve.”
As part of Stay Healthy Together, Broward HealthPoint’s mobile units will be stationed in targeted Pompano Beach zip codes three days a week for eight weeks, offering free screenings, primary care, nutrition counseling and specialist referrals. After the initial eight weeks, the mobile units will continue serving the community one day a week for the next two years.
Plans call for Stay Healthy Together to be expanded to additional cities across the county.
