Funds will go towards new affordable housing initiative, Aspire 1650
Fort Lauderdale, FL July 8, 2024 – Broward Partnership received an $850,000 legislative award presented by Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) on Monday, July 1, marking a significant step in addressing homelessness and the affordable housing crisis in Broward County. The presentation took place at Broward Partnership in Fort Lauderdale and was attended by local community leaders and representatives from Broward Partnership.
The $850,000 funding will facilitate the development of Aspire 1650, a vital supportive service and workforce housing development that will serve vulnerable populations in the community. Aspire 1650 is designed to be an income-eligible housing community with approximately 80 apartment units, offering accessible common spaces, amenities, resources and services. The development is adjacent to the existing North Homeless Assistance Center in Pompano Beach.

This project exemplifies our vision of safe and stable housing for all and highlights the importance of public-private partnerships.”
Aspire 1650 will dedicate a portion of the apartments to permanent supportive housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and will include units for individuals with special needs. The remaining apartments will be affordable housing reserved for income-qualifying individuals and families who do not require supportive services. Funding was secured through the U.S. House of Representatives appropriations process.

It pains me deeply to know that over 2,000 Broward County residents are experiencing homelessness. No one in our nation should be without a roof over their head,” said Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. “With this funding, we are taking a significant step towards addressing homelessness and the affordable housing crisis in Broward County. I am proud to have secured this investment, which will provide a stable environment where our community’s most vulnerable can rebuild their lives, access essential services, and join a supportive community. This funding reflects my unwavering commitment to protecting, building, and delivering for Florida’s 20th Congressional District.”
The event featured remarks from Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick, Broward Partnership CEO Tom Campbell, development partner Mitch Rosenstein from Green Mills Group, and Broward Partnership Board Member Dodie Keith-Lazowick. They emphasized the importance of the funding and its anticipated impact on the community.
Aspire 1650 follows the success of Broward Partnership’s first affordable housing development, Seven on Seventh, which opened in September 2023. Seven on Seventh provides 72 residences and essential services in downtown Fort Lauderdale to individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness.
