Alliance for the Arts’ expansive lawn to host Jan. 11 event; Naples benefit follows in April
December 17, 2024 – A Southwest Florida nonprofit dedicated to supporting local cancer patients on their healing journeys is bringing its inaugural Fort Myers’ outdoor yoga fundraiser to one of the city’s most expansive green spaces.
The YogaCAN benefit on behalf of the Cancer Alliance Network (CAN) is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11 at 9 a.m. on the lawn of the Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers. Advance registration is available online; same-day registration will also be accepted, starting at 8:30 a.m.
CAN is devoted to providing dignity to local cancer patients and their families in Collier and Lee counties through financial aid, resources and support. Through generous community donations, CAN turns despair into hope by providing a lifeline during a very difficult time.
The annual benefit began more than a decade ago, growing out of a community yoga class, JaneCAN, that was initially created as an opportunity for family, friends and community members to support Jane Waltzer as she and her family faced the challenges of living with breast cancer.
Following her passing, Jane’s legacy of selfless service continues through the annual YogaCAN event, founded by her husband, Dr. Joel Waltzer, and which started in Naples before expanding to Lee County this year. YogaCAN Naples will be held in April 2025.
Individual tickets for the Jan. 11 event in Fort Myers are available for $55 ($65 the day of the event), or $20 for children ages 6-12. The class will be led by local yoga instructor Blair Gonsenhauser and sound healing practitioner Billy Zanski of Asheville, N.C. Lee Health Cancer Institute is the presenting sponsor.
