Helping patients in their lowest moments, and seeing their progress during rehabilitation, is a big part of the satisfaction Bilan Said gets from being a case manager in the Memorial Healthcare System.

“I’ve always worked with medically-complex patients,” she explained, which includes a nursing career that began in 2005. “Those who have had strokes or car accidents with multiple traumas can be hospitalized for weeks and months at a time, so deep connections are formed with the clinical team that are part of that person’s journey.”

When it’s finally time for the patient discharge, Said, a native of Somalia, shares that she is always available to answer questions, provide updates, and be an ongoing resource. Growing up in a war-torn country, she knows what it means to be a friendly face and to lend a helping hand.
