At the 10th anniversary of Pleasures of the Palate, an intimate benefit dinner for the Diabetes Research Institute, hosts Sue and Doug Gallagher welcomed approximately 120 fellow bon vivants to the event’s new venue, Emeril’s Miami Beach. Guests were greeted with glasses of bubbling champagne and passed hors d’oeuvres before sitting down to a four-course dinner paired with the appropriate wines to enhance flavors. Gonzalo Sanabria has been appointed to the Doctors Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, the fundraising arm of not-for-profit Doctors Hospital.

Sanabria is president of Real Estate Works, Inc., a real estate investment and development company. He serves on the Miami-Dade County Planning Advisory Board and is a trustee member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. He’s a member of the Realtor Association of Greater Miami and the Beaches, Miami Rescue Mission, American Red Cross and the March of Dimes.



Amanda Leannais, Broward Health Weston employee, recently received the Samaritan award presented to her by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office during the BSO’s Award Ceremony.

Leannais received the award for her heroic efforts while assisting in saving a woman whose car had gone into the lake behind Broward Health Weston. Not only did she jump into the water to help pull her out, she stayed with the woman, keeping her calm until Broward County Fire Rescue arrived.

Leannais is currently the Senior Physician Office Specialist for Broward Health.



Delray Medical Center has unveiled an $8.5 million newly-expanded, refurbished and electronically updated Emergency Room designed to facilitate the level of emergency medical care it can provide to patients when immediate treatment typically is most important.

The new department features a more convenient and private admitting area and essentially doubles the size of Delray Medical Center’s previous ER, increasing the number of examination rooms from 17 to 35. Each exam room is a private enclosure equipped with a flat screen TV.

The Emergency Department’s waiting room also has doubled in size. The area is accented by a unique, in-wall fish tank that has been added to help reduce patient anxiety and distract them from their pain.

Perhaps more important than the Emergency Department’s renovated physical elements are the enhancements that patients and their families don’t see. Delray Medical Center’s new ER incorporates the most up-to-date electronics, including wireless Internet access, and MedHost electronic medical record-keeping to gain access to diagnostic results and help start patients on prescribed treatments as quickly as possible.

Additionally, the new ER offers Fast Track access for patients who arrive with minor injuries and illnesses.



Oakwood Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. is proud to announce that Russ Bowers has joined the Center as Human Resources Director.

Bowers, who has worked in the human resources field for 18 years, has spent most of his career working with government and social service agencies. Prior to joining Oakwood Center, Bowers has worked at the West County Mental Health Clinic in Belle Glade, which has since become a part of Oakwood Center, for Palm Beach County as a recruiter and for a local substance abuse treatment agency. Originally from West Virginia, Bowers received his Master’s Degree from Marshall University.
