Coral Springs Medical Center (CSMC) announces the appointment of two nurse managers. Cora Benson was appointed to regional nurse manager of surgical services. David Vieira was appointed as regional manager of critical care.

Prior to Benson’s appointment, she served as the assistant nurse manager of surgical services. With 31 years of nursing experience, Benson served in several other nursing leadership capacities such as nurse manager of St. Lukes Hospital’s surgical unit in the Philippines and nurse manager of several units at Riyadh-Al-Kharj Military Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Currently, Vieira is the nurse manager of the medical unit and just recently accepted the added responsibility of critical care nurse manager. Prior to coming to CSMC, Vieira was the director of the intermediate care unit/progressive cardiac care unit at Westside Regional Medical Center.



When two veteran nurses began their nursing careers at a newly expanded Palm Beach County hospital in the Glades, Lyndon Johnson was president and the year was 1968. Belle Glade residents Winnie Jackson and Geraldine Bailey were recently honored for 40 years of service to Glades General Hospital and its patients.

The charge nurse for the medical surgery and pediatric unit, Jackson first joined the Glades General staff as a nursing assistant in 1967 after having received her training at the hospital. While working in that capacity for 12 years, Jackson continued her education in the Licensed Practical Nurse Program and, upon graduating, practiced as an LPN for a decade before attending Palm Beach Community College in Belle Glade where she attained her Registered Nurse degree.

Geraldine Bailey began working as a nursing assistant in 1967. She went to the technical school in Belle Glade and became an LPN, then continued her education and became an RN. She has worked in many capacities, including pediatrics and medical surgery, obstetrics, and as a house supervisor on the night shift.



Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has received a $250,000 endowment from FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society (LLLS). The gift will be used to establish the Endowment Fund for Stipends for Graduate Students.

Anne Boykin, RN, Ph.D., dean and professor of the College of Nursing, launched the fund in the fall 2007 semester to support graduate students who want to attend school full time.

William Norton, manager of decision support, Patient Financial Services at St. Mary’s Medical Center, has been promoted to Director of Patient Financial Services, announced Chief Executive Officer Davide M. Carbone.

Norton has more than 27 years of healthcare experience and he has been with St. Mary’s since 2005, during which time he assisted the past director of patient financial services in carrying out all support services and requests for the centralized business offices. Before joining St. Mary’s, he worked as a supervisor in Tenet’s regional business office and as assistant director of patient financial services at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.



HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, Inc. hosted the annual commemorative butterfly release “Set the Butterflies Free”, a tranquil display of life and remembrance of those we miss. As guests entered the courtyard they were serenaded by guitarists from North Broward Preparatory as the beautiful afternoon evolved into a joyful memory while hundreds of butterflies were set free by the participants at the Gazebo Garden located in Fort Lauderdale.
