JFK Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Margarita Abrishami to the JFK Medical Center Board of Trustees. Margarita is one of the most prominent female publishers in Florida. She is currently the President of Teramar Media and the Publisher and Editor and Chief of Vive Magazine which she started in 2000.

Margarita is very involved in charitable, civic and professional organizations in Palm Beach County. She gives her time to numerous committees, including The Children’s Place at Homesafe, The March of Dimes, The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association and the American Lung Association. She is a member of the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches, the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.



Jackson Health System named Stuart Podolnick as senior vice president and chief administrative officer of Jackson South Community Hospital.

Prior to this position, Podolnick was the chief administrative officer at Jackson’s Mental Health Hospital Center for the past 12 years, with additional responsibilities for the last three years.

Podolnick has spent his entire career in the health care industry, beginning in 1974 at a 576-bed teaching and research hospital in New Orleans followed by senior-level positions at various psychiatric and health care companies.

Podolnick graduated in 1975 from Tulane University with a master of public health degree in health systems and hospital administration.



The Christine E. Lynn Heart Institute at Boca Raton Community Hospital in Boca Raton has announced the hiring of Arthur H. Katz, M.D. Dr. Katz will work with Lead Open Heart Surgeon James Morris, M.D., to offer open heart surgery for the first time in the history of the hospital.

Dr. Katz comes to Boca Raton Community Hospital from a private practice in Palm Beach Gardens where he was a cardiothoracic surgeon and partner. He completed his training at NYU Medical Center. Special interests in adult cardiac surgery include off pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB), mitral valve repair, left ventricular remodeling for congestive heart failure and ablative procedures for atrial fibrillation. In the last few years, Dr. Katz has performed over 1,000 OPCAB surgeries and approximately 75 off pump pulmonary vein isolations



Boca Raton Community Hospital recently announced the opening of the Christine E. Lynn Heart Institute.

In December 2004, Boca Raton Community Hospital won state approval to offer open-heart surgery, after 15 years of dedicated internal commitment and unwavering external dedication to this much needed cardiac care facility. This marks the first time in nearly 20 years that a new comprehensive open-heart program will open in Palm Beach County.

Until now, high risk cardiac patients or those in need of invasive care have been transferred from Boca Raton Community Hospital to either Delray Beach or Fort Lauderdale.

“Patients will no longer have to travel an inconvenient or potentially life-threatening distance to receive comprehensive emergency cardiac care,” said Rick Van Lith, senior vice president and COO of Boca Raton Community Hospital. “Over the past 10 years, the need for this level of surgical care in Southern Palm Beach County has increased significantly. Boca Raton Community Hospital has stepped up to the plate, underscoring our commitment to provide the very best care to the residents of Boca Raton and its surrounding communities.”

James Morris, M.D., is lead surgeon and comes to Boca Raton from Charleston, SC where he was the director of the Heart Center and Cardiac Services at Roper Hospital, part of Roper Saint Francis Health System, since 1996. Dr. Morris received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth University and is a graduate of the surgical and cardiothoracic program at Duke University’s prestigious School of Medicine. Dr. Morris was an assistant then associate professor of Surgery at the world renowned Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School.



Bonnie L. Mackey, CPA, a partner with Levin, Silvey, Zelko & Co., PA in Hollywood, received the 2006 Public Service Award from the National Organization of the AWSCPAs, the ABWA’s 2006 Spirit of Excellence Small Business Leader of the Year award and was a finalist for the 2006 Key Partners Award in the Accounting/Tax category presented by the South Florida Business Journal. She previously received the 2005 South Florida Business Journal’s award for Excellence in Accounting in the Estate & Trust category, and in 2001 the NAWBO Vista award along with the Circle of Excellence award from the Women’s Council of Commerce.

Bonnie has been a resident of South Florida since 1965 and a practicing CPA since 1995. She graduated from the University of South Florida in 1992 with an extended Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree. In 2000, Bonnie received her Certified Specialist in Estate Planning (CSEP) designation from the National Institute for Excellence in Professional Education, LLC. She is also a Certified Quick Books Pro advisor for 2003 & 2006. Her background includes all facets of accounting, including financial statement and tax preparation, as well as computer software and bookkeeping assistance.
