Ophthalmologist Eugene M. Eisner, M.D., has been re-elected president of the more than 1,400 physicians on the Baptist Hospital medical staff. He served as president from 2006-2007, president-elect from 2004-2005, vice president from 2002-2003, and chief of ophthalmology from 1992-2001. He has been on the staff at Baptist Hospital since 1974.

Dr. Eisner is Board-certified in ophthalmology. He is also certified in laser vision correction procedures for the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. He is a voluntary faculty member at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and a member of the Dade County Medical Association, the Miami Ophthalmological Society and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Eisner received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, and completed his residency program in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.



Jupiter Medical Center’s (JMC) leadership team has received a national award for its workplace improvement program by The Jackson Group, Inc. JMC was one of two healthcare organizations out of a total of 224 they surveyed nationally this year to win the prestigious Laureate Award for Workplace Enhancement.

This award is based on employee surveys conducted in 2003, 2005, and 2007 to measure improvements in the work climate and results of action plans in areas identified for upgrading. The 2007 results showed strong improvements in all twelve measured categories as compared to 2005. The top three categories of improvement were organizational leadership, identification with goals and mission and attention to employee needs. Over 1,000 of JMC’s employees completed the 2007 survey.



Miami Children’s Hospital’s (MCH) Board of Directors has announced new officers and board members for the 2008-2010 term.

New board members include:

Chairman – Juan Carlos Mas, chairman of Neff Corporation. Mas previously served as chairman of the MCH board from 2000 to 2003 and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation

Vice Chairman – Donna Huck, a consultant with Hertner Block and Associates. Huck, who served as chairman of the MCH board in 1991, is also a founding member of the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Community Council.

Secretary – Ghislain Gouraige, Jr., senior vice president – investments for UBS Financial Services, Inc. He has served on the MCH board since 2002 and was reelected as secretary for the current board term.

New board members include Peter Bermont, managing director of The Bermont Advisory Group; Luis Gonzalez-Mendoza, M.D., pediatric endocrinologist on staff at Miami Children’s Hospital; Deise Granado-Villar, M.D., chief of the Department of Pediatric Medicine and medical director of Miami Children’s Division of Preventive Medicine and Community Pediatrics; Mario Murgado, president and chief executive officer of Brickell Motors; and Keith T. Ward, founder and president of Quality Management North America, Inc.

       



The Board of Advisors of The Belk Foundation has provided a $15,000 grant to Lee Memorial Health System Foundation in support of its Breast C.A.R.E. Program – a local program that provides treatments, services and financial stipends to uninsured and underinsured women suffering from breast cancer.

“The Belk Foundation is pleased to present this grant to the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation to help fund medical treatment and medication for women in Lee and Collier counties who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are uninsured or underinsured,” said Paul Wyche, trustee of The Belk Foundation. “We commend the Lee Memorial Heath System Foundation for its efforts to reach out to women who are in this situation.”



The Women’s Diagnostic & Wellness Center at Coral Springs Medical Center(CSMC) is proud to announce the availability of Breast MRI, an advanced technique used in the evaluation and early detection of breast cancer.

With advanced MRI techniques, the sensitivity of the Breast MRI is approximately 100 percent for detecting breast cancer as small as three millimeters. It can find 2-8 percent more cancers in high-risk patients than physical exams and mammography alone. Mammography and physical exams may be limited due to breast anatomy but Breast MRI works regardless of breast size, density, patient age, presence of implants and/or prior surgery.
