Holy Cross Hospital, in collaboration with partners West Palm Beach Veteran Affairs Medical Center, C.L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics, FAU Community Health Center and Community Health of South Florida, Inc., has announced a new Health Research and Services Administration Award at Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing.

The award, the Caring-based Academic Partnerships in Excellence: Veteran RNs in Primary Care (CAPE-V), is open to veterans who would like to earn their BSN degree to practice in a primary care setting and work with vulnerable and underserved populations. With CAPE-V, BSN students who are veterans will receive stipends, enriched curricula and a 180-hour clinical immersion experience in a community-based primary care center. RNs working in primary care and the College of Nursing faculty and students will receive professional development training focused on veterans and primary care.
 
This project aims to create healthier communities through educating and clinically training nursing students, specifically veterans, in primary care to better serve the unique needs of veterans and who are ready and willing to serve rural and underserved communities.

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital’s Scully-Welsh Cancer Center welcomes dermatologist Jonathan Braue, M.D. Dr. Braue earned his medical degree from University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa and completed his medical internship and dermatology residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Braue graduated as one of Vanderbilt’s top residents and has received many accolades from his mentors. In addition to being an expert in detection and treatment of skin cancer, he also has a passion for treating cutaneous lymphoma. He is a member of American Academy of Dermatology and the American Medical Association.
 
In addition to volunteering at USF’s student-run clinic and treating patients from underserved populations around the Tampa area, Dr. Braue spent time in Bolivia providing medical care to those lacking access to quality healthcare.


Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital welcomes infectious disease physician Jorge Requena-Penenori, M.D. Dr. Requena-Penenori earned his medical degree at the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de la Havana in Havana, Cuba. He completed a family medicine residency at Comandante Manuel Fajardo Teaching Hospital in Havana, Cuba and an internal medicine residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, as well as a fellowship in infectious disease at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Dr. Requena-Penenori traveled the world as a primary care physician for the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (MINSAP). In underprivileged Venezuelan communities, he provided comprehensive medical care and assisted in the prevention and treatment of diseases. In Cuba, he worked for MINSAP at Enrique Cabrera General Hospital. He served patients in general wards, intensive care units and outpatient departments. Dr. Requena-Penenori also traveled to Ecuador and performed preoperative evaluations for patients undergoing ocular surgeries through a humanitarian project developed for underserved populations. He provided preventative medical care for individuals and families in the area.
 
While in Winston-Salem, Dr. Requena-Penenori practiced at W. G. Hefner VA Medical Center and provided care at several outpatient clinics. An inpatient consultant in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s general wards and intensive care units, he also cared for post-transplant and other immunocompromised patients.


Tenet Florida Physician Services (TFPS) is pleased to announce Claire E. Shannon, M.D., a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, is opening her new practice at the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in West Palm Beach.

Prior to joining TFPS and Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute, Dr. Shannon served as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery in the division of pediatric orthopedic surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine located in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Shannon is affiliated with Johns Hopkins as honorary faculty.
 
For her education and training, Dr. Shannon completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Shannon finished her residency and internship in orthopedic surgery at Case Western/ University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. She graduated medical school from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, NY.


Tenet Florida Physician Services (TFPS) is pleased to announce Dr. Raghuram Sampath, an experienced neurosurgeon, has joined the Advanced Neuroscience Network Physicians (ANNP) practice in Hialeah and the Palm Beach Neuroscience Institute (PBNI) in West Palm Beach.

Prior to joining TFPS, Dr. Sampath worked as an attending neurosurgeon at Geisinger Health System in Wilkes-Barre, PA. In addition, Dr. Sampath instructed future neuroscientists as an associated faculty member in the Neuroendovascular Surgery Fellowship Program at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
 
For his education and training, Dr. Sampath completed fellowships in cerebrovascular surgery from the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, WA, and in skull base surgery from the University of Colorado, Denver, CO. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO, and an internship in general surgery from New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia/Cornell, New York, NY. Dr. Sampath completed medical school at the University of Delhi, Delhi, India.
