The Miami-Dade County Health Department Women’s Health & Preventive Services Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from Health Foundation of South Florida in the amount of $90,000.

The grant will allow the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program to screen an additional 315 women for mammograms and 159 women for pap smears as well as provide education and outreach activities to women 18 years of age and older. Approximately 890 women currently receive screenings through the program.




John Carstensen, M.D., a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Physician has recently joined the medical staff at Lower Keys Medical Center. For the past six years, Dr. Carstensen has practiced medicine with Iowa Health Physicians and Clinics in Des Moines, Iowa.




During the month of March, GlobalHealth is sponsoring American Heart Association CPR courses for medical staff professionals, physicians and nurses associated with the Palm Beach County Medical Society.

Penny Shifrin, RN, BSN, CCRC, ASLNC, and Maxene Lackey, RN, BSN, of GlobalHealth, will be leading two sessions at the Palm Beach County Medical Society’s office:

– March 18th, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Heartsaver CPR/AED for medical staff professionals
– March 20th, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.: BLS/ Healthcare Provider Recertification for physicians

Boca Raton Community Hospital (BRCH) announces the appointment of Lynn Stevens, RN, BSN, CEN, MHA, as director for its Stroke Center.

Stevens comes to BRCH from Winston Salem, NC where she was stroke coordinator for Forsyth Stroke and Neurovascular Center. She worked in several nursing positions at Forsyth Medical Center and was instrumental in establishing its stroke program for which she served as stroke coordinator since 2004. In addition, Stevens is the founder and president of the National Consortium of Stroke Coordinators.




Tenet South Florida is proud to announce the opening of a new Health & Wellness by Tenet on-site medical clinic at the BankAtlantic headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Patients are receiving medical care from Dr. Anthony Maher, a board certified family physician with Tenet Florida Physician Services, and a member of the medical staff at North Shore Medical Center – FMC Campus in Lauderdale Lakes.
