Leon Medical Centers Inc. announced the appointment of Aristides Pallin, Jr. as Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Prior to joining Leon Medical Centers Pallin was Chief Information Officer for Miami Children’s Hospital where he managed the addition of IT systems to improve efficiency and patient outcomes. His industry experience spans more than 23 years in which a greater part of his career was spent in leadership positions at Mercy Hospital.




General Surgeon Orlando Morejón, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Mariners Hospital.

Dr. Morejón, who is Board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, comes to the Keys from Cape Girardeau, MO, where he was director of the trauma service at Saint Francis Medical Center.

A graduate of Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Morejón completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami School of Medicine, Hospital and Clinics. He also completed a fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at Jackson Memorial Hospital.




The Florida Dietetic Association (FDA) recently selected Consuelo Silva Weinstein for the FDA’s 2008 Dietetic Technician of the Year. She has an A.S. from Palm Beach Community college in Dietetic tech and an A.A.S. in dental hygiene from New York community college. Currently she works as and administrative Dietetic Technician at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

Weinstein is committed to advancing the profession of Dietetics and is a strong advocate for the American Dietetic Association, Florida Dietetic Association and Palm Beach Dietetic Association (PBDA). She has been instrumental in increasing PDA membership and has been an active and supportive participant in PBDA community activities including manning the hotline and participating in local fundraising efforts.




The National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems recently announced Lee Memorial Health System has earned Honorable Mention in the category of “Community Engagement” for the System’s Community Health Visioning 2017 project.

Lee Memorial Health System launched Community Health Visioning: 2017 in the spring of 2007 after the system purchased two hospitals in Lee County, Florida. The purpose of the Visioning was to create a shared vision for the future of health care in our area.




John C. Johnson, President & Chief Executive Officer of Holy Cross Hospital for the past 10 years, has been named President & Chief Executive Officer of CHE-South Florida, a virtual organization that includes Fort Lauderdale’s Holy Cross and Mercy Hospital in Miami. Both health care ministries are members of Catholic Health East.

The announcement was made by the Mercy Hospital Board of Trustees and the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, Florida, with the support of Catholic Health East.
