The Reverend Dr. Gary Johnson has been named to the Board of Directors of Baptist Health Enterprises, which operates Baptist Health’s real estate holdings and joint partnerships with physicians at the Medical Arts Surgery Centers at Baptist and South Miami, and Baptist Outpatient Services, which includes neighborhood outpatient diagnostic and urgent care centers.

Johnson joined the Board of Directors of Baptist Hospital, another affiliate of Baptist Health South Florida, in 2006 and is also a member of the Miami Baptist Association Liaison Committee.

In 2006, Johnson joined the Miami Baptist Association, a networking organization for Southern Baptist churches and ministries in Miami-Dade County. Previously, he served as pastor of Wayside Baptist Church since April 1997. Before moving to Miami, he was the pastor of several churches in Illinois and Florida.



Lower Keys Medical Center employee, Anna Sody, R.N., RNFA, has recently earned her Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) credentialing. The RNFA is a nursing professional who assumes the responsibility for providing technical assistance under the direct supervision and direction of the operating surgeon.



The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities has announced that Broward Children’s Center’s skilled nursing facility (CompCare) has been awarded its highest level of reaccreditation.

The CARF, (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) recertification has been awarded to the Center after an in-depth audit of its services to make sure it meets rigorous guidelines for service and quality. The certification is an endorsement that the Center conforms to nationally and internationally-recognized service standards focused on enhancing the lives of children served.



James Thaw has been selected as Chief Executive Officer of Broward Health Broward General Medical Center.

Thaw served for nearly 10 years as CEO of Lafayette General Medical Center in Louisiana.

His selection as CEO of Broward General brings Thaw back to familiar territory. Early career posts included leadership at two Humana hospitals: Bennett Hospital (now Westside Regional Medical Center) in Plantation and Pompano Beach Medical Center. He held key executive positions at hospitals in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina prior to his appointment as CEO at Lafayette General.

Thaw received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and his master’s degree in health administration from the University of South Carolina. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Hospital Association.



The nurses at Miami Children’s Hospital have done it again. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® for excellence in nursing services has once again designated Miami Children’s as a Magnet hospital.

According to the ANCC, the leading nursing credentialing organization in the United States, Magnet designation is widely accepted as the gold standard of patient care. Only 3 percent of hospitals nationwide have achieved Magnet designation. Miami Children’s Hospital first received this recognition in 2004.
