Humana South Florida announced that its Medicaid HMO has been awarded an accreditation status of Excellent from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Humana South Florida’s accreditation status — the highest possible level — is based on a voluntary review of how a health plan ensures that its members are receiving high quality care.

“Humana is committed to continuous quality improvement, and I believe that has been validated by the NCQA,” said Michael A. Seltzer, CEO Humana Florida Medicare and Medicaid Products. “Each of our employees and providers contributed to the NCQA accreditation process in some way, so we are extremely proud of this achievement.”



Charles E. Gooder has been named Interim Vice President of Physician Services for the North Broward Hospital District (NBHD).

Prior to joining the NBHD, Gooder has spent 37 years consulting and managing, both large academic multi-specialty and single specialty private physician practices. He still actively administers a multi-state subspecialty practice network and operates GPMS Consulting. He serves as national consultant for physicians and healthcare systems to establish competitive strategic business models and implement effective administrative operating systems.

Gooder received his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology and General Science from the University of Iowa. He then pursued a focus on Industrial Relations and Public Administration from the University of Minnesota.



Dario Pancorbo, M.D., has been named medical director of Baptist Outpatient Services’ Executive Health and Wellness program. Most recently, Dr. Pancorbo worked at Baptist and South Miami Hospitals as a hospitalist, a physician who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients.

Dr. Pancorbo trained at The Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati, where he was chief resident and also received the “Best Resident” honor for two consecutive years. He is Board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and also is certified as a poison information specialist by the American Association of Poison Control Centers.



The North Broward Hospital District and Wal-Mart have signed a letter of intent to open walk-in health centers in leased space inside select Broward-area Wal-Mart stores.

“Our goal is to offer convenience, access and low cost health services for everyone – kids, adults, families,” said Alan Levine, president/CEO of the North Broward Hospital District. “As we develop these health centers, we will be offering additional services such as back-to-school physicals, vaccinations and health screenings. By providing convenient access, we will make it easier for people to proactively manage their health needs.”

The health centers will be staffed by advanced registered nurse practitioners trained to provide diagnostic services and treatment for common medical conditions such as allergies, sore throats, minor cuts and infections. In addition, the walk-in centers will offer screenings for high cholesterol and high blood pressure with all prices posted so consumers know what their costs will be ahead of time. Physician oversight for care provided in the health centers will be performed by on-staff North Broward Hospital District physicians.

Pending approval by the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, the first health center in a Wal-Mart south of Martin County is scheduled to open in 2007.



Gary Strack, Boca Raton Community Hospital President & CEO, announced that Jan Savarick has been named Senior Vice President of the Boca Raton Community Hospital Foundation.

Savarick joined the Foundation in the summer of 2001 and has served in a number of roles. Most recently, she served as the Senior Director of Development.

Savarick has over thirty years of successful marketing, advertising, fund-raising, public relations, media relations, strategic planning, organizational development, operational excellence and profit and loss management experience. She has served on the Boards of the Polo Club, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, as President of Donna Klein Jewish Academy and currently serves on the Board of Hillel at Florida Atlantic University and the Advisory Board of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority.
