The Oakwood Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. is proud to announce that Diane White has been hired as the new Human Resources Director.

White graduated cum laude from Barry University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management. She brings with her to Oakwood experience in both human resources and operations in the medical field, including running her own human resources consulting business for many years. She is a current member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Human Resources Association of Palm Beach County, and the President of the Palm Beach Medical Group Management Assn.




Pauline Grant, CEO of Broward Health North Broward Medical Center, was recently awarded the 2009 Jamaican Milestone Award for Excellence in the Healthcare sector at the 4th Annual Jamaican Business Expo in Miramar. The annual celebration, put on by the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce, pays tribute to Jamaican entrepreneurship and community partnership. “I’m honored to receive this award,” said Pauline. “As a native of Jamaica, I’m proud of the accomplishments of the Jamaican community here in South Florida and look forward to continued growth and long lasting community partnerships.”




Barry University nursing professor, Dr. Jo Ann Kleier, was recognized with the 2008-2009 Urologic Nursing Catherine-Ann Lawrence Literary Excellence Award recently for her article titled “Procedure Competencies and Job Functions of the Urologic Advanced Practice Nurse.”

Her study was published in the April, 2009 issue of Urologic Nursing. The award is provided by the editorial board of Urologic Nursing and is based on a review of the merits of the manuscript including relevance to practice of urologic nursing, timeliness of topic, academic merit, research rigor, and the degree of editing required for publication.




Garry E. Ikola, senior vice president of City Furniture and Ashley Furniture, was elected treasurer of Hospice by the Sea, Inc. Board of Directors and chairman of the board’s finance committee. He has served on the board since 2008 and also serves on the board of directors of Hospice by the Sea Foundation, Inc.

Ikola has been with City Furniture since its founding 30 years ago and is involved in many furniture industry-based organizations.

He received the Spirit of Life Award from the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center for his fundraising efforts and is a supporter of Covenant House Florida in Ft. Lauderdale and St. Joan of Arc Church and School in Boca Raton.

The annual celebration, hosted by Minority Development & Empowerment, Inc., pays tribute to those who go the extra mile to support the Caribbean population in South Florida.

Pauline was also recently honored as one of “South Florida’s 100 Most Accomplished Blacks in Healthcare” at the ICABA™ Recognition Reception hosted by NOVA Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.
