Carrfour Supportive Housing, a non-profit organization solely dedicated to providing permanent housing and supportive services to the formerly homeless in Miami-Dade County, recently held its annual luncheon and fundraiser at Jungle Island in Miami. The luncheon honored Homeless Advocate Bob Dickinson, chairman of Camillus House, an organization that has provided humanitarian services to the poor and homeless in Miami-Dade County for 48 years. Dickinson is also the retired President/CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines. The Public Health Trust (PHT), which governs Jackson Health System, recently selected new officers. John Copeland III was selected to serve as chairman of the board, Angel Medina Jr. was chosen to be vice chairman, Georgena D. Ford, R.N., will serve as secretary and Marcos Lapciuc was appointed treasurer.

John Copeland III is currently managing director of the Copeland Companies.

Angel Medina Jr. is area executive for Regions Bank’s South Florida market.

Georgena D. Ford is a registered nurse with more than 40 years of professional healthcare experience in the clinical and administrative side of the industry.

Marcos Jose Lapciuc is the founder of MLIP, LLC, an industrial and commercial real estate development and holding enterprise.



Florida Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Dominic Riganotti to the staff. Dominic R. Riganotti, D.O., is board certified in internal medicine/infectious diseases and specializes in immunosuppresion, HIV medicine, tropical and travel medicine and infectious disease and immunology.

Most recently, Dr. Riganotti was affiliated with Doctors Health Group in Pembroke Pines, FL.



Maria Costa-Smith and Johanna Paterson have been named to the board of directors of Homestead Hospital.

Costa-Smith is president of the color division of Costa Farms located in Goulds, FL. She earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and a master’s degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Florida.

Paterson is a former banking executive. She spent 13 years managing international operations and fundraising campaigns for SunTrust Bank. Paterson also serves on the Homestead Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.

 



 

Completion of St. Lucie Medical Center’s third floor renovations will have orthopedic patients feeling as though they are entering a whole new world. That new world will be St. Lucie Medical Center’s new Orthopedic Institute. The hospital’s 3rd floor shell is being transformed into a 35-bed Orthopedic Unit. The $22.4 million expansion will create a unit that looks more like an upscale hotel than a hospital wing. This strategy to create a hotel-like environment is catching on at other hospitals across the country. Many administrators realize that many orthopedic patients are healthy adults who will spend a short time recuperating following surgery. Adding this alternative inpatient environment can attract more patients to the facility to receive elective surgery.

 

The new wing will have all private rooms and patients can take advantage of such amenities as a plush lobby area, complete with a cappuccino coffee bar, internet access and comfortable seating arrangements. The idea is to give patients the feeling that they are relaxing not recuperating.

Artwork in patient rooms will cover up standard hospital equipment and stylish carpeting and furnishings will give the Institute an upscale, hotel-like atmosphere.

The hospital expansion also will include two more operating rooms and additional parking spaces. The new SLMC Orthopedic Institute should be ready for patients in Summer -2009.
