Samuel E. Mathis, Jr. has been named the Vice President/Chief Diversity Officer for the North Broward Hospital District (NBHD).

Most recently, Mathis was president of Vantage Perspective, Inc. He has served as vice president of diversity for both Darden Restaurants, Inc. and Office Depot, Inc. During his tenure with Office Depot, Mathis’ leadership in the area of diversity produced recognitions such as the 2004 Florida Minority Supplier Development Council Corporation of the Year and the 2003 South Florida Business Journal Corporate Diversity Leadership Award.

Mathis received his master’s degree in business administration from Rollins College and his undergraduate degree from the School of Architecture and Design at Kansas State University.



North Broward Medical Center recently completed the installation of high-speed wireless access transmitters. Now, patients, visitors and physicians can go online with any wireless device, such as a PDA or laptop computer equipped with a wireless card.

Areas within the hospital that offer wireless access include main lobby, waiting rooms, patient rooms and the cafeteria.

“We are glad to be able to offer our patients and visitors this convenience,” said Pauline Grant, CEO, North Broward Medical Center. “Today, when people do not have access to computers and e-mail they tend to feel very cut off. That feeling is compounded when you are in the hospital. Now patients and their families will be able to stay in touch better.”



Two Kindred Hospital’s in South Florida have been granted The 2006 First Quarter Hospital Employee Performance Awards. Kindred Hospital Coral Gables received The Gold Award for the 5th time in 11 quarters and Kindred Hospital of Fort Lauderdale received the Silver Award.

The Gold Award designates the hospital with the highest overall performance for all five quality and performance standards. The Silver Award goes to the hospital in each region with the most improved performance score over the previous quarter for all program standards.



West Boca Medical Center announces Stephanie Sherman has been named the hospital’s new director of human resources.

Sherman has more than 15 years of experience in human resource leadership, most recently serving as interim director and human resources manager at Delray Medical Center and Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital. A former cardiology practice administrator, she has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business and education from State University of New York – Albany. Sherman is a member of the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration and the Society for Human Resource Management.



The medical staff of Imperial Point Medical Center (IPMC) has elected family practice physician, William Jensen, D.O., as chief of staff. He succeeds Dr. Jason Gates, who served as chief of staff from 2004-2006.

Dr. Jensen is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has been practicing for 15 years in Pompano Beach. He will continue with his active practice while fulfilling his duties as chief of staff.

At IPMC, Dr Jensen has served as vice chief of staff from 2004-2006, chief of the department of medicine from 2002-2004, vice chief of medicine and chairman of the credentials and qualifications committee from 2000-2002, and secretary and treasurer of the department of medicine from 1995-2000. He has served as a member of the medical council since 2000 and as a member of the North Broward Hospital District’s Joint Conference Committee since 2004.

Dr. Jensen is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Physician, and the Broward County Osteopathic Medical Association.

After graduating medical school at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Jensen completed an internship at the Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center. He finished his residency at Southeastern College Osteopathic Medicine in North Miami Beach, Florida. He is a native of Chicago and resides in Pompano Beach with his wife Susan and their two children.
