The Barry University Division of Medicine welcomes Urmala Roopnarinesingh who has been appointed director for continuing medical education. Roopnarinesingh holds a BA in sociology and English literature from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and an MS in health services administration from Barry University. She comes to the Division of Medicine from the Barry University School of Nursing where she was director of marketing and development.

Frcek credits The Society through their research discoveries and development of new therapies with providing support for his mother, Lee, early in the 1990’s. He witnessed first-hand the impact and progress of The Society, through an experimental bone marrow transplant, which enabled his mother to courageously fight Leukemia for an additional 13 years.



Delray Medical Center CEO Robert Krieger recently announced that Boca Raton resident Anthony Dardano, Sr., M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.C.O.G. has been named Chief Medical Officer for the hospital.

Dr. Dardano is a board certified obstetrician gynecologist with more than 30 years of experience, most recently serving as chairman of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica, NY. He also chaired several committees during his tenure with the hospital. In addition, for the past nine years he handled physician credentialing, discipline and chart review for Blue Cross and Blue Shield.



Glades General Hospital in Palm Beach County can now register births literally at bedside. Thanks to its new Electronic Birth Registry (EBR) system, Glades General has automated and accelerated the process of registering births, reducing the costs and processing time. Now the staff at Glades General can gather the patient data, print out the report, and get the required electronic signatures – all at the bedside, within minutes. Once she’s released, the new mom can immediately obtain an official copy of the newborn’s birth certificate at the Office of Vital Statistics at the Palm Beach County Health Department. Before, parents in Florida had to wait as long as six weeks to receive their new baby’s birth certificate in the mail.

In addition, the EBR enables Glades General to communicate electronically with the Healthy Start program, which offers assistance to qualified mothers. With the new system, Glades General Hospital significantly reduces the time required to issue a Social Security card to the newborn. The system also eliminates the need for a Healthy Start coordinator to personally visit the hospital to interview the applicant.



Isador H. Lieberman, M.D., a nationally and internationally recognized minimally invasive spine surgeon, has been named Chairman of the new Medical, Interventional and Surgical Spine Center at Cleveland Clinic in Florida.

Dr. Lieberman most recently served as a spine surgeon at Cleveland Clinic’s Ohio campus in the Center for Spine Health with additional appointments to the hospital’s Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Women’s Health and Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic in Florida, Dr. Lieberman also served as Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Minimally Invasive Surgery Center and is serving a four-year term on Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Governors. He joined the Cleveland Clinic organization in 1997.
