University Hospital and Medical Center would like to recognize Jennifer Gianos as a Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN.) She is one of an elite group of nurses who has passed the examination offered, for the first time to nurses, by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS.)

Jennifer has earned many important positions in the past including Certified Operating Room Nurse and First Assistant. For the past twenty years, Jennifer has been working with Dr. Carlos Carrasquilla, M.D., F.A.C.S., who is one of the pioneers of Bariatric Surgery and Director of the University Hospital Center for Metabolic and Obesity Surgery in Tamarac, FL.




Memorial Healthcare System has been named the 2006 winner of the Foster G. McGaw Award for excellence in community service, one of the most esteemed honors in healthcare. Sponsored by the American Hospital Association (AHA), the Baxter International Foundation and the Cardinal Health Foundation, the award recognizes a healthcare organization for improving the health and well-being of the community it serves.

In addition to its strong leadership and its many fruitful partnerships with public and private agencies, Memorial Healthcare System was recognized for a wide array of responsive, high-quality programs and services in the areas of youth at risk, disease management, neighborhood empowerment, childhood obesity and employee volunteerism.




Approximately 200 employees from Palmetto General Hospital, Hialeah Hospital and Coral Gables Hospital gathered at Tropical Park in Miami to show their support for the American Heart Association by participating in the 2007 Heart Walk. The hospitals combined to raise $25,422, making Tenet the largest corporate fundraiser. In addition to the hospitals’ contributions, Tenet Healthcare Foundation donated $50,000 to the AHA and was the signature sponsor of the walk.




Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) has appointed Raul Herrera, M.D., as the Chief Research Officer. He is joining MCH from Alexion Pharmaceuticals were he served as the Senior Executive Director of Clinical Research and Drug Development.

Dr. Herrera has extensive experience in pharmaceutically sponsored clinical research studies serving as director of research for large companies; in academic research working for Columbia University Hospitals in New York and in clinical pharmacology studies working for clinical research organizations. His broad knowledge and interpersonal skills will be a valued asset to the Research Institute.




United HomeCare Services is pleased to announce that Richard Diaz has joined the Company as Director of Information Technology and Jose E. Alvarez, C.P.A. has been hired as Chief Financial Officer.

Prior to joining UHCS, Diaz was a Senior Manager of Applications Development for DaVita Healthcare and was also Director of Information Technology for Team Health Inc.

Prior to joining UHCS, Alvarez was Corporate Controller for Catalina Lighting, Inc. and Controller for Navix Radiology Systems, Inc.
