Mark S. Soloway, M.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Urology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has been awarded the Presidential Citation by the American Urological Association.

The award is given to individuals who have significantly promoted the treatment of urological diseases over a specified period of time. Each year, the current president of the AUA chooses one or more people who have fit this criterion. This year, the current president of the AUA, Paul F. Schellhammer, M.D., chose Dr. Soloway for his lifelong commitment to education in urologic oncology through case presentation analysis and stimulating moderation of panel discussions. Dr. Schellhammer also noted Dr. Soloway’s work in disseminating best practices to urologists worldwide.



Dedication to patients and a strong work ethic are vital signs in the career of Virginia Lally, R.N., of Baptist Health Home Care, who was recently named Baptist Outpatient Services Nurse of the Year. In 34 years of service at Baptist Health, Lally has taken only two sick days. That commitment to patient care has led to her recent designation as Baptist Outpatient Services Nurse of the Year.

“I work with an incredible team of nurses and believe that many of them are qualified to become Nurse of the Year,” said Lally. “Winning was emotional and exciting. I was very pleased with the feedback from patients and appreciative of the recognition from my peers.”

Lally, an alumna of Gardner-Webb University, hopes to further her clinical education in order to assist more patients.



Christopher M. Kraus has been promoted vice president and chief operating officer for Baptist Health South Florida Foundation.

Kraus is also the gift planning officer for the Foundation with more than 14 years of experience in planned giving. He joined Baptist Health Foundation in 1997, serving most recently as assistant vice president.

He currently serves as secretary on the Board of the Planned Giving Council of Miami-Dade, and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.



The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Burn Center has been verified as a burn center by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma. This achievement recognizes the burn center’s dedication to providing compassionate, leading-edge care to every patient.

The Burn Center Verification /Consultation Program, established in 1995 by the American Burn Association and American College of Surgeons, does not designate burn centers, but verifies that a center is demonstrating its commitment to providing the highest quality care to its patients. In order to be verified, burn centers undergo an on-site hospital review by a team of experience surgeons to see if the center meets criteria that ensure burn care capabilities and performance as outlined by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma.



Florida Medical Center announced that it has named Bob J. Haley as CEO of the Fort Lauderdale-based medical and surgical hospital. Haley has been with Florida Medical Center since 2007 as interim CEO.

Prior to joining Florida Medical Center, Haley was CEO and President of Denton Regional Medical Center in Denton, TX; Doctors Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg, SC and Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC. Haley was also a principal in Louderman and Haney Consulting. Haley began his career in healthcare as an Assistant Administrator at North Florida Regional Medical Center in 1975 prior to healthcare; Haley worked as a staff accountant at Ernst & Young.
