Carmen Julia Calfa, M.D., and Aruna Mani, M.D., recently joined the medical staffs of Memorial Regional Hospital and Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines. Both physicians will work along side Drs. Sandra Franco and Alejandra Perez, who are co-directors of the Memorial Breast Cancer Center.

Dr. Calfa, a board certified oncologist, received a medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Targu-Mures, Romania, graduating among the top ten in her class. Upon graduation, she joined the University as a clinical Instructor in Epidemiology and Public Health. During this time, she entered residency in Hematology, Immunology and Biochemistry and became nationally board certified in January 2000.

Dr. Mani graduated from University of Akron, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences. She received her medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and completed her residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.



With finding a cure to ovarian cancer as a mutual goal, Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper (H.O.W.) is proud to welcome Johnathan M. Lancaster, M.D., Ph.D., to their Medical Advisory Board.

Dr. Lancaster currently serves as Moffitt’s Chief, Gynecologic Surgical Oncology, and Medical Director of the Lifetime Cancer Screening & Prevention Center in Tampa, FL. He also directs a translational research program in ovarian cancer. He serves on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) ovarian committee, the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists hereditary cancer educational resource panel, and is a member of the DoD Ovarian Cancer Research program study section.



The Greenfield Group, a medical real estate company, recently broke ground on a new three-story 45,000-square-foot medical office building on the campus of Northwest Medical Center in Margate, FL. The three-story building is the second phase of the Northwest Medical Park project and the third building that Greenfield will have developed at Northwest. Oliver, Glidden, Spina and Partners, Architects, Inc is the architect for the project and Leighton-McGinn & Company will be the general contractor

The new building will help Northwest Medical Center continue to meet the demands of a growing community and attract more physicians and specialists to deliver quality healthcare to the community right here in our own back yard,” says Dianne Goldenberg, Chief Executive Officer at Northwest Medical Center. Mike Hlatki, who oversees The Greenfield Group’s development division, says the project is over fifty percent leased and construction is scheduled to be completed in summer 2009. “We are proud to be working with Northwest Medical Center and enjoy our relationship with the hospital’s physician and professional community,” says Hlatki.



William W. Wilson III has been named chairman of the Board of Directors of Baptist Hospital Foundation. Wilson previously served as chairman of Homestead Hospital Foundation. In addition to his volunteer leadership at Baptist Hospital Foundation, Wilson is president and CEO of RefocuX, a consulting company, and is also a partner at Tri-Tech Construction, a luxury home builder.

Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami University in Oxford, OH, and a master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati. He is involved in several professional organizations and serves as Ocean Reef Chapter chairman and regional board member of the World Presidents’ Organization. Wilson is also chairman of the Subscribers’ Advisory Committee of Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange.



Barry University faculty member, Dr. Lanetta B. Jordan, was chosen by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. to be Chief Medical Officer for their national organization. Dr. Jordan is an associate professor and associate program director for the Master of Public Health program at Barry as well as the director of Sickle Cell Services at Memorial Healthcare System, South Broward Hospital District, in Hollywood, FL.
