Tenet Florida Physician Services (TFPS) is pleased to announce that Stephen M. Quinnan, M.D., an orthopaedic surgeon with vast experience in orthopaedic trauma surgery and post-traumatic reconstruction, has opened his practice at the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in West Palm Beach.

Prior to joining TFPS and the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute, Dr. Quinnan worked as the Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Miami Health System (UHealth) Department of Orthopaedics, as well as Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jackson South Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Quinnan served as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Fellowship Director at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship.
 
For his education and training, Dr. Quinnan completed an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at the world’s top fellowship in this field at the R Adams Cowley (RAC) Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland Medical System located in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Quinnan also finished a limb lengthening and deformity reconstruction fellowship at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. For his orthopaedic surgical internship and residency, Dr. Quinnan worked at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Columbia University located in New York, NY. Dr. Quinnan graduated medical school from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.


Gastro Health is the first institution in the United States to utilize the latest diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy technology, the J10 Series Ultrasound Video Gastroscope.

Daniel Gelrud, M.D., FACP, gastroenterologist and advanced endoscopist with Gastro Health, became the first physician to utilize the technology to examine a tumor in the wall of the patient’s stomach.
 
“My first case with the EUS-J10 happened to be one where this technology really made a difference,” said Dr. Gelrud. “This patient had a tumor in the fundus of the stomach, a very challenging area to reach and biopsy. Because this scope is smaller and more flexible, I was able to access the area without any difficulty.”
 
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a minimally invasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of tissues and allows the doctor to reach organs that were difficult to access before such as the pancreas and the outside of the esophagus and stomach.
 
The new PENTAX Medical J10 Series Ultrasound Video Gastroscopes, which were launched in mid-September, are designed for optimal procedural efficiency and provide a lightweight and ergonomic control body design to ensure stability and ease of intubation.
 
“These are highly specialized procedures so being able to provide our patients with the most comfortable experience and the most accurate possible results is critical,” says Dr. Gelrud, who is also the Gastroenterology Course Program Director and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. “This new technology is easier to manipulate, lighter, provides greater imaging quality.”
 
“This is the type of technology we use to go reach cancer in the wall of the stomach or in the pancreas. It allows us to perform interventional procedures that we could not do before. We can now use this technology to drain cysts and help relieve pain caused by cancer.”
 


Pediatric general surgeon Avraham Schlager, M.D., FACS, has joined Palm Beach Children’s Surgical Specialists, a Tenet Florida Physician Services (TFPS) medical practice located in West Palm Beach.

Dr. Schlager is the former Surgical Co-Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Medical Director at Akron Children’s Hospital located in Akron, OH. In addition, Dr. Schlager served as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), an academic institution affiliated with Akron Children’s Hospital. Dr. Schlager also served as the Director of the Pediatric Surgery Research Fellowship program and worked as a pediatric general and trauma surgeon, and neonatal specialist at the hospital.
 
For his education and training, Dr. Schlager completed a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Emory University, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Dr. Schlager completed his general surgery residency and internship at New York University Medical Center in New York, NY. In addition, Dr. Schlager also finished a research residency at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center located in Jerusalem, Israel. Dr. Schlager graduated medical school from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY.


Holy Cross Medical Group announces the addition of Andrew Lovy, M.D., M.S., a fellowship trained hand and upper extremity surgeon.

Prior to joining Holy Cross, Dr. Lovy was a hand and upper extremity surgeon and Assistant Professor, Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and Assistant Fellowship Director, Hand Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Beth Israel.
 
Dr. Lovy completed his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, in hand, upper extremity and microvascular surgery and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. He earned his M.D. and M.S. in Clinical Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Economics from Tufts University.


Board-certified urologist Blake Evans, M.D., FACS, joins BocaCare Physician Network, a part of Baptist Health South Florida.

Dr. Evans joins BocaCare from Lee Health in Fort Myers. Previously, he served as the interim chair of the Department of Surgery at Cape Coral Hospital in Cape Coral.
 
Dr. Evans earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his urologic training at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
