Cleveland Clinic Florida recently broke ground on a new 180,000 sq. ft. multi-level hospital tower on its Weston campus at a ceremony attended by City of Weston officials, clinic administrators, community leaders, donors, medical staff and employees.

Part of a planned $302 million capital investment announced last fall, expansion will entail the addition of 75 hospital beds and critical care areas to accommodate surgical cases from medical specialty areas and the transplant program, a 25 percent increase in emergency room capacity, and a new Women’s Center. Additional campus enhancements will include a new cafeteria, added parking, and renovation of common areas.
 
The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Cleveland Clinic Florida President Wael Barsoum, M.D., and Mike Maroone, volunteer chairman of the Campaign for Cleveland Clinic Florida, a multi-phase philanthropic initiative focused on growing and enhancing clinical services offered at the academic medical center. In addition to the Weston expansion, the Campaign will support the creation of a new family health and ambulatory surgery center in Coral Springs.
