October 17, 2022 – CMS Innovation Center Director Liz Fowler, Ph.D., J.D. has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine, the academy announced today.

Fowler, who currently serves as deputy administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and director of the CMS Innovation Center, was recognized for her role as a chief architect of the Affordable Care Act and Medicare Modernization Act, and for leading CMS efforts on Medicare payment and delivery system reform.
The National Academy of Medicine elects new members who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health. The organization provides independent, objective analysis and advice to policymakers and policy influencers, and conducts other activities to solve complex problems and inform public policy decisions.
