August 4, 2023 – Dade County Medical Association (DCMA) President Carmel Barrau., MD, announced that DCMA Managing Director Angel Bosch was elected Chair of the Conference of Florida Medical Society Executives (CFMSE) and appointed to the Florida Medical Association (FMA) during the FMA Annual Meeting held in Orlando this past weekend.
Founded in the 80’s, CFMSE is a professional organization of more than 50 medical society executives and staff specialists. The CFMSE represents over 10,000 physicians throughout the state of Florida. Through its diverse membership and the organizations, they represent, it advances the profession of medicine through education, leadership development, and collaboration.
Angel Bosch came to Florida in 2018 to work for Cobbe Consulting and Management, LLP (CCM), after living through the experience of Hurricane Maria in 2017 in his country of Puerto Rico. As a Managing Director, he started managing the Dade County Medical Association (DCMA) in 2018. In 2021 he added the Miami Orthopaedic Society (MOS) as part of his responsibilities. Making him the first Hispanic to manage these organizations. Moreover, he is the first Puerto Rican-Hispanic to Chair the Conference of Florida Medical Societies Executives since its foundation.
Besides being elected Chair of the CFMSE, Bosch was appointed to the FMA Board of Governors by the incoming President, Dr. Jason Goldman, MD as Medical Society Executive of all Medical Societies in the State of Florida.
In his inauguration speech, Bosch mentioned the three areas he will be working in during his presidency. These three priorities are Education, Advocacy, and Financial Stability.
EDUCATION. We must be agents of change to help guide with our leadership the future of the organization we are responsible for. It is not just about the latest technology, membership, accounting, or payroll. It is about generational gaps, Artificial Intelligence, and emotional intelligence, among others.
We must educate people outside the CFMSE about what the organization can do for them, the community, and physicians. Let’s educate the community, the politicians, and the government, that we are available to partner with them to help improve the quality of healthcare and the physician/patient relationship through the state of Florida. Finally, the work of education about what organized medicine does includes CFMSE and the FMA. CFMSE at the local level and the FMA at the state and federal levels.
ADVOCACY. CFMSE should become a partner for all its members to help them more with their issues and initiatives in Tallahassee. Certainly, this topic should be managed hand in hand with the FMA. The decision is simple to make; either we want to be at the Table or on the Table.
FINANCIAL STABILITY. For CFMSE to be relevant, it should add value to the Executives, Physicians, and the FMA. We must look for new partners that want to invest in our organization because they regard value in our members.
To finalize his speech, Angel Bosch paraphrased a thought of Dr. Carmel Barrau during his acceptance speech as president of the Dade County Medical Association “To accomplish these objectives; I cannot do it by myself… “To whom much is given, much is expected” I would like to encourage all of you to become more involved in our organization. Your participation and engagement remain crucial to the success of our organization. By working together, we can accomplish great things and make a real difference in the lives of those we serve. I challenge every existing member of the organization to bring a new member and one sponsor to the CFMSE this coming year”.
Prior to his joining the DCMA in 2018, Angel Bosch was the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Orthopaedic Society (SPOT) and owner of A Planners, a Public Relations, lobbying, and event planning small business. Angel Bosch is a Board Member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Government Affairs Committee.
