Mercy Hospital announced the completion of the final phase of its recently expanded, $25 million state-of-the-art emergency department.

The new Emergency Department located in the M.B. Fernandez Family Emergency Pavilion, is named after Miami entrepreneur Miguel B. (Mike) Fernandez and his family, who donated $5 million to make the expansion a reality.

The now-completed state-of-the-art facility more than tripled the capabilities of the hospital’s emergency department to 22,000 square feet, with 32 available beds, including eight in the minor treatment area of the facility. The initial larger phase of the expansion was completed in December of last year, with the smaller second phase now also finalized.

“There are thousands of new residents moving into the neighborhoods served by our hospital,” said Dr. Manuel P. Anton III, COO, senior vice president and medical director of Mercy Hospital. “The expanded Emergency Department will enhance the quality and service we provide to patients in need.”

With more than 30,000 visits per year, the Hospital embarked on a multi-million expansion in order to provide greater privacy and comfort for patients and their families. The Emergency Department has separate entrances for walk-in patients and those brought via-ambulance, a spacious waiting area, and the latest in technology to ensure quality medical care.
