Throughout the year 2015, Coral Gables Hospital has proved its commitment to providing a high level of care to the community through its expanded services and many achievements.
Starting off the year, the hospital received recognition from the City of Coral Gables for more than 85 years of commitment to the health and well-being of the Coral Gables community. Mayor Jim Cason, along with other city officials, presented the hospital with a Certificate of Appreciation for their involvement and support of local events and activities.
In April, the hospital was honored with the 2015 Circle of Excellence Award. This company-wide recognition was given to Tenet hospitals that demonstrated impressive operational and financial performance and provided exceptional care in 2014.
In May, Coral Gables Hospital received its second consecutive “A” rating in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2015 Hospital Safety Score. The grading system is designed to give consumers information they can use to make the best healthcare decisions for themselves or a loved one.
The following month, Patrick Downes was appointed as the hospital’s new chief executive officer. Downes came to Coral Gables Hospital after serving as the chief operating officer of Hialeah Hospital for four years. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Florida State University.
A few weeks later, in an ongoing effort to be environmentally friendly, Coral Gables Hospital hosted a series of events and community activities. The hospital’s “Green Team,” which looks for ways to curb environmental degradation, transformed the auditorium into a “homemade organic farm” and encouraged guests to participate in the “go green” movement. Hospital directors also showed their support of the initiative by dedicating their time to cleaning a community park.
Coral Gables Hospital was recognized in July with the “Greenhealth Partner for Change Award” from Practice Greenhealth, a non-profit organization that serves as the source for environmental solutions in the healthcare sector. The hospital received the award for continually making environmental improvements and upholding green standards.
In August, Coral Gables Hospital unveiled its newly remodeled emergency room, designed to provide patients with a more efficient emergency care experience. The renovations included a quick care area with five patient bays, brand new equipment and modern décor. The ER’s radiology room was also upgraded with new equipment and flooring.
City of Coral Gables September 11th Remembrance Ceremony and Rescue Truck Dedication. Following the ceremony was the traditional “wetting down” of the new fire truck that will be servicing the city of Coral Gables. Among the individuals that participated in the inauguration acts were CEO Patrick Downes and Mayor of Coral Gables Jim Cason.
Through the awards, recognitions and improvements achieved in 2015, Coral Gables Hospital further solidifies itself as a leader in the South Florida medical industry and looks forward to additional growth in 2016.
