The hospital celebrated many recognitions and achievements in 2016. Some of the most noteworthy accomplishments of the year include:

90th Anniversary
Coral Gables Hospital held a celebratory 90th anniversary event at the Coral Gables Museum, and guests included physicians, staff, community supporters, fire rescue personnel and city officials. Many of the 60 employees and physicians who have been with the hospital for more than 25 years were in attendance. The 245-bed hospital has come a long way since opening its doors in 1926 with just 35 beds and has continuously made improvements in 2016.

Top Safety Score
Coral Gables Hospital demonstrated its unwavering dedication to safety by receiving its eight consecutive “A” rating in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score. The grading system is designed to give consumers information they can use to make the best healthcare decisions for themselves or a loved one. By achieving an “A”, Coral Gables Hospital receives recognition as one of the safest hospitals in the United States.

Commitment to Improving Stroke Care
Coral Gables Hospital and the City of Coral Gables Fire Department were proud to be recognized by the Miami-Dade Stroke Consortium (MDSC) for their dedication to improving stroke care and outcomes. The hospital, which is a Primary Stroke Center, is one of 16 hospitals and six fire rescue departments that is part of MDSC’s network. The mission of the collaborative network is to have stroke patients transported to the appropriate stroke center to receive the quickest and best possible treatment.

Justice for All Award
As a staple in its community, Coral Gables Hospital collaborates with local organizations to achieve its mission of helping people live happier, healthier lives. For instance, in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Coral Gables Hospital received the “Justice for All Award” for its outstanding contributions to victims of crime. The award was presented by representatives from the Coral Gables Police Department and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

Cereal Donation for Local Food Bank
Coral Gables Hospital donated $7,384 and 5,289 servings of cereal to provide breakfast for local children and adults struggling with hunger through its second annual Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive. The donations benefitted Feeding South Florida, a food bank serving Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
