When the City of Coral Gables was founded in 1925, the groundwork for Coral Gables Hospital was not long behind. Where Coral Gables Hospital now stands, a two-story, 35-bed facility by the name of Tallman Hospital began serving the health needs of the burgeoning new city on July 28, 1926. Today, 245-bed Coral Gables Hospital proudly celebrates 85 years of high quality service, tremendous change and positive growth.
First known as Tallman Hospital, the facility was operated by two nurses during World War II. For the next several decades, the hospital expanded under the ownership of Health Care, Inc. (HCI), until it was purchased by Hospital Affiliates, Inc. (HAI) in 1971 and became known as Coral Gables Hospital. As part of the Tenet Healthcare Corporation network of hospitals since 1997, the hospital’s mission to maintain excellence in healthcare delivery and meet the needs of the community remains strong.
Today, the bustling 245-bed acute care hospital located in central Miami-Dade County is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation’s oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency. The community-based hospital serves south Dade County, Latin America and the Caribbean, offering a broad range of high quality and award-winning services from primary care to surgery and specialty programs, including: orthopedics, urology, comprehensive diagnostics services, emergency medicine, outpatient rehabilitation, cardiovascular services and more.
