The Board of Directors of the Dade County Medical Association (DCMA), wants to announce that Dr. Raul Ravelo is finishing his tenure as President of the organization.  During his year Dr. Ravelo was able to achieve several notable accomplishments, despite managing the disruptions created by Hurricane Irma.  Dr. Ravelo and his board members were very successful in moving the DCMA to its new facilities near the University of Miami Medical Campus.  The new office space allows the DCMA to integrate advanced technology that will support its future social media and public relations strategies. “We think that this new facility will give the DCMA what it needs to lead us into the future and welcome new generations of physicians” commented Dr. Ravelo.

Another accomplishment under Dr. Ravelo’s watch was securing the contract services of a Management Company to carry out the administration of the DCMA.   After 36 years of dedicated service, Executive Vice President Patricia Handler announced her retirement in the spring.  “Acknowledging Patricia Handler’s standing among the members of DCMA and the medical community is very strong. We recognize our new Management Company has a large task ahead, but we are confident they can help the DCMA take the next step forward”, expressed Dr. Ravelo.

The organization eagerly looks forward to our upcoming Presidential Installation where Dr. Barbara Montford will be inducted as the First Female African-American to become president of the Dade County Medical Association.  The Gala for the Presidential Installation will be on June 23, 2018 at JW Marriot-Miami at 7:00pm. The newly appointed University of Miami School of Medicine Dean, Dr. Henri Ford, will be presenting the opening remarks of the Gala. Born in Haiti, Dr. Ford was educated at Princeton and Harvard before becoming a renowned pediatric surgeon.

Finally, Dr. Ravelo would like to thank The Doctors Company, University of Miami Heath System, Florida Blue, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Ross University for their support to the Presidential Installation
