Cardiovascular surgeon Harold Roberts, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been elected Chief of Surgery at Florida Medical Center, announced Aurelio Fernandez, CEO. Dr. Roberts had previously served as Vice Chief of Surgery since January 2006.

The Medical Executive Committee also elected urologist Marshall Kaplan, M.D., to replace Dr. Roberts as Vice Chief of Surgery. Dr. Kaplan had previously served on the Committee as Member-at-Large and is a senior member of the hospital’s medical staff, having held admitting privileges since 1974, shortly after the hospital opened.

Dr. Harold Roberts, who joined Florida Medical Center in September 1990, serves as a member of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Services Committee, formed in January 2006. Previously, since January 1994, he was a member of the hospital’s Heart Institute of Florida Committee and served as its Chairman from January 2000 through December 2005. He has also served on the hospital’s OR Committee (August 1997 through January 2004), Surgical Review Committee (January 1998 through December 2002) and Infection Control Committee (January 1992 through December 1992).

Dr. Marshall Kaplan joined the medical staff of Florida Medical Center in August 1974 and was elected to serve as Member-at-Large on the Medical Executive Committee from January 2006. He is currently a member of the OR Committee, a position he has held since January 1990. Other Committee memberships include Medical Records Committee, January 1999 through December 2005, serving as its Chairman from January 1999 through December 2003; Utilization Review Committee, January 1994 through December 1999, and Surgical Case Review Committee, January 1992 through December 1995.
