Dr. Louis T. Feldgoise
Caridad Center

Caridad Center in Boynton Beach provides free medical and dental services to more than 7,000 individuals for more than 23,000 annual visits. This can only be accomplished with the assistance of 500 volunteers of which more than 200 are medical or dental professionals.

One of these very special healthcare volunteers is Dr. Louis T. Feldgoise. As the lead volunteer ophthalmologist, he has demonstrated his compassion and relentless commitment to ensuring that the indigent, the uninsured, and the underserved in Palm Beach County have access to vision care. He has truly made a difference in their visual health and the quality of life for many of the children and families.

Palm Beach County’s underserved neighbors have no better advocate than Dr.Feldgoise. He is guided by strong principles, treating everyone with compassion and dignity. According to Dr. Feldgoise, “Vision care is not a luxury—it is an essential part of leading a productive life.”

Dr. Feldgoise is a man with a “vision.” From his first volunteer day two years ago, it was his goal to establish a physical and dedicated site that would provide eye care and healthy vision for all in our county. After his retirement, he became a leader in establishing the clinic’s vision care program into more than just screenings.

He treats all problems as projects and challenges. The issue of space became very apparent when necessary vision equipment started arriving at the clinic. His solution – get a vision bus donated. This bus is now stationed at the center’s parking lot and soon will serve as Caridad Center’s Free Vision Clinic.

Because of his interventions, the clinic can now offer care for real solutions to real problems. He has presented Caridad’s mission to many medical associations and has managed to get eye centers, surgeons, and retinal consultants onboard to offer their services to help.

He is a more than a hero, he is a miracle worker. Many patients that might otherwise go blind or have severely compromised vision, now have hope – thanks to Dr. Feldgoise’s resourcefulness, professionalism, compassion, generosity, modesty, dedication, and kindness.
