March 9, 2023 – Richard Follwell, DO, FASMBS, a general and bariatric surgeon joins the Palm Beach Health Network Physician Group (PBHNPG) and opens his bariatric and general surgery practice in Palm Beach Gardens with plans to expand to Port St. Lucie in 2023. Dr. Follwell specializes in revisional bariatric surgery, gastric band revision and follow-up, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, pre and post-surgery endoscopy, general surgery as related to post bariatric procedures, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, and hernia surgery. Dr. Follwell is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. In addition, Dr. Follwell is on-staff at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Dr. Follwell rejoins Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was Medical Director of the Bariatric Center at the hospital and had a Tenet Florida Physician Services office adjacent to the hospital from 2013-2015.
Prior to joining the Palm Beach Health Network Physician Group, Dr. Follwell worked at the Cleveland Clinic, Martin Health (CCMH) Family Health Center in Stuart, FL, where he served as Chief of Surgery and Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center of Bariatrics and Weight Management. In addition, Dr. Follwell served as Department Chair, Bariatric & Minimally Invasive Surgery at CCMH. Dr. Follwell is also a preceptor for medical students at Florida State University and assistant professor for physician assistant students at Lincoln Memorial University located in Harrogate, Tennessee. He is also a preceptor in health education at the Clark Advanced Learning Center, Indian River State College, Stuart, FL.
Dr. Follwell holds a Certificate in da Vinci Surgical Systems Training he obtained during a surgeon-led bariatrics procedure course in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. For his education and training, Dr. Follwell completed a general surgery residency at Des Peres Hospital, St. Louis, MO. In addition, Dr. Follwell finished his general surgery internship at Capital Region Medical Center located in Jefferson City, MO. Dr. Follwell graduated medical school from University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas City, MO. Dr. Follwell has been practicing medicine since 1998.
