Almost two years after breaking ground on the new Homestead Hospital, the exterior of the building is nearly complete. A view from the Florida Turnpike shows the 388,000-square-foot facility taking shape, with nearly all of the exterior walls erected, windows installed and roofs being prepared for tiling.
The $135 million project is the first completely new hospital to be built in Miami-Dade County in some 30 years. The hospital will include a medical office building, 120 private patient rooms and a large outpatient diagnostic center equipped with the latest digital technology. Scheduled to open late this year, the new Homestead Hospital will replace the existing one.
Homestead Hospital CEO Bo Boulenger reviews plans for the new hospital with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez during a recent tour of the construction site.
“As construction progresses, excitement about the new hospital is building in the community,” said Bo Boulenger, CEO of Homestead Hospital. “The new emergency center will be three times the size of our current facility. With bedside registration and the ability to assess patients quickly in a comfortable environment, patients and their families can expect a smoother and more pleasant experience at our hospital.”
The most recent work completed on the hospitals surrounding campus includes a 1,400-space parking lot and sidewalks installed around the two lakes at the front of the property. A total of five lakes will enhance the grounds.
