This year, two Hospice of Palm Beach County physicians received the prestigious Awards of Excellence at the Florida Hospice & Palliative Care Association’s (FHPCA) 29th Annual Forum held in Orlando. The awards were given to Barry Miskin, M.D., FACS for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Practice and Gail Cooney, M.D., FAAHPM for the Barbara Janosko Excellence in Leadership.
 
Since the beginning of her career in hospice and palliative medicine 20 years ago, Dr. Gail Cooney has worked tirelessly to improve the scope and quality of care for patients facing life limiting illnesses receive. Dr. Cooney began her career in 1994 at Hospice of Palm Beach County where she has served as Associate Medical Director, Medical Director, Medical Director Emeritus and is currently the Vice President of Access. In each of these roles, she has been dedicated to improving patient care.
 
Dr. Barry Miskin has been a hospice physician for seven years, visiting patients in their homes. During the nomination process, staff, patients, and families expressed an outpouring of admiration, describing him as kind, compassionate, committed and hardworking. Dr. Miskin is reputed to maintain an “open-heart policy” in his approach to the practice of medicine. Not only is he available for patients, families and staff, he makes each person feel important as he diagnoses and delivers care.
 
Hospice of Palm Beach County and Hospice by the Sea recently announced a partnership, combining under the new name TrustBridge Health.
