On July 1 2025 Baptist Health South Florida and Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine officially welcomed the first cohort of physician residents to begin clinical training under their recently-expanded academic affiliation. These newly minted doctors – many of them FIU alumni – are now stepping into roles that serve the very communities they call home.
The FIU-Baptist Health partnership was forged in 2023 to strengthen the pipeline of future physicians. Together, the two anchor organizations are also building a 100,000-square-foot medical facility – a new epicenter for training, clinical care, and community connection – slated to open in 2028 on the FIU main campus.
