October 24, 2019 – Florida Blue, the leading health insurer in Florida, announced today that it has earned 5 out of 5 stars for the Florida Blue Medicare Advantage (MA) HMO plan for a second consecutive year, awarded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
CMS annually awards Star ratings from 1 to 5 (with 5 being the best) based on performance and quality for Medicare health and drug plans. Plan ratings are given in 44 quality measurements surrounding several categories, including management of chronic conditions, maintaining members’ health and satisfaction, as well as pharmaceutical services.
“Florida’s Medicare market continues to be the backbone of the health care industry in the state, and we remain dedicated to providing our Medicare members the highest quality of care with a focus on striving to ensure their experience with us is second to none,” said Kathy Feeny, president of Florida Blue Medicare.
More than 400 plans were rated by CMS this year, and Florida Blue is one of four MA insurers in Florida to earn a 5-Star rating, and only one of 20 nationwide to do so. Florida Health Care Plan, a Florida Blue affiliated insurer serving Blue Cross and Blue Shield members in Flagler and Volusia counties, is included as part of the 5-Star rated MA HMO plan.
“Earning a top Medicare Stars ranking for two years running is a testament to our team’s steadfast focus on living our mission every day – helping people and communities achieve better health,” said Sarah Iselin, executive vice president of government programs and diversified business for Florida Blue. “We are proud of this accomplishment, and we look forward to providing our Medicare members access to the high-quality care they deserve.”
