The Florida International University (FIU) College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Anahid Kulwicki has accepted the position of Director of the Nursing Graduate Program and the Nursing PhD Program. Dr. Kulwicki is an accomplished scholar and researcher in the areas of Arab-American health, community health, and cultural competency. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Research in Nursing and Health, Journal of Nursing Scholarship, Journal of Public Health Nursing and Journal of Ethnicity and Disease among others.

Dr. Kulwicki was most recently the deputy director of the Wayne County Department of Health and Human Services and was a tenured full professor at Oakland University in Michigan. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Science and Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the American University in Lebanon. Dr. Kulwicki has served in various faculty positions beginning as lecturer at Wayne State University. She then progressed to assistant professor, associate professor, and professor at Oakland University. She was a Fulbright Scholar at Jordan University in Jordan in 1996.

Dr. Kulwicki has been either the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator of numerous research and program grants, including a $3 million project on lead hazard control funded by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and a $2.4 million R01 grant on predictors of child adjustment among Iraqi Gulf War refugees funded by the National Institutes of Health. She has received a multitude of honors and awards, including Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and Fellow of the Academy of International Nursing. She was appointed by the Governor to the Michigan Board of Nursing, a position she has held since 2004.
