April 27, 2023 HCA Florida Brandon Hospital is full of friendly faces during April, National Volunteer Month. The hospital relaunched its volunteer program after a brief hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers are crucial to Brandon Hospital as they provide additional support to our professional staff by contributing to the comfort, care and happiness of patients.

With the relaunch of our volunteer program, Brandon Hospital welcomed back Jackie, a local retired law enforcement captain. Jackie has contributed over eight years of volunteer services to the hospital. Jackie volunteers at the front desk entrance of both entrance towers greeting visitors and employees as they arrive to work, issuing visitor passes and escorting visitors to various areas in the hospital. “I wanted to continue my service to the community after retirement. There is no better way than volunteering at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital with this group of professional staff,” explains Jackie. “Spending time at the hospital is so rewarding no matter who or how I help here.”

Since relaunching the volunteer services program in the fall, there are over 60 people who volunteer alongside Jackie, including members of our pastoral care team. Brandon Hospital hopes to expand its volunteer services with the help of volunteer manager Angela Anderson, who has taken the lead in reestablishing volunteer efforts. “I am proud of the volunteer team and I hope we can continue to grow our volunteer program as time goes on with the individuals who look to serve their community.”

If you are interested in volunteering at Brandon Hospital, we are accepting volunteer applications for those 14 years or older. Volunteer opportunities are available from Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with future plans to expand the program to seven days a week.

Interested volunteers will participate in an interview to help determine which volunteer opportunities best suit their skills and desires to help. Volunteers are also subject to a background check and will attend an orientation with Angela Anderson prior to assuming their volunteer duties. In return, volunteers will make new friends, enjoy a chance to learn a new skill, and help others in their community.

For more information on the Volunteer program contact Angela Anderson at or call 813.681.5551 and ask to be connected to volunteer services.
