October 6, 2022 – Thanks to colleagues across Florida and HCA Healthcare’s Enterprise Emergency Operations Center (EEOC) in Nashville, Tenn., all but one of HCA Florida Healthcare’s 49 hospital campuses across the state have fully resumed services to provide Floridians with lifesaving care.
As Hurricane Ian strengthened and shifted its course before making landfall, Command Centers at each HCA Florida Healthcare hospital helped ensure the safety of thousands of patients and colleagues as they braced to minimize damage to the system’s physical infrastructure.
“As the most extensive hospital network in the state, we have a responsibility to provide care when our communities are in need, therefore I’m pleased we’ve been able to resume services at our facilities,” said Chuck Hall, president of HCA Healthcare National Group.
One facility located along Florida’s west coast, where the Category 4 hurricane made landfall with extreme winds, flooding and storm surge, remains temporarily closed while another has re-opened:
Temporarily Closed
- HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital: HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte transferred all patients to alternative facilities by Sept. 30. Repairs are already underway, and reopening is anticipated to be soon.
Re-Opened
- HCA Florida Englewood Hospital: HCA Florida Englewood Hospital has re-opened and fully resumed all services following the restoration of full power and water service to the 100-bed acute care hospital.

Caring for Our Colleagues
In addition to taking care of all patients, HCA Healthcare is committed to care for its nearly 77,000 colleagues across Florida. Financial aid and resources for those impacted by the storm are provided by HCA Healthcare’s The Hope Fund, established in 2005, to support colleagues in disasters. The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund is an employee-run, employee-supported 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial aid and resources to employees after an extended illness, injury, disaster or other special situations. In 2021, the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund provided $10.7 million in grants that helped more than 4,800 families. HCA Healthcare also provided colleagues with daily access to onsite mini-marts, fuel stations, showers and laundry services.
