Dr. Akach brings expertise from Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania.
July 25, 2022 – HCA Florida JFK Hospital, a 527-bed acute care facility, and HCA Florida JFK North Hospital, a 280-bed acute care facility, welcomed Samir Akach, MD as Assistant Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Akach comes to HCA Florida Healthcare from Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania, where he has served as Medical Director of Quality Coordination and Physician Advisor for Utilization Management. Dr. Akach also serves as Associate Program Director of Geisinger Northeast’s Internal Medicine Residency Program and Program Director for the Fellowship in Hospital Medicine. He is an experienced hospitalist who has served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital among numerous other leadership roles.
“Dr. Akach has a passion for quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience and is a wonderful addition to our facility and the East Florida Division,” said JFK and JFK North Hospital Chief Medical Officer Alex Paya, DO, MHA, FACP.
Dr. Akach earned his medical degree from the University of Damascus School of Medicine in Syria. He went on to the Scranton Temple internal medicine residency program and eventually also earned a Master of Science in Healthcare Management from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
