Miami, Fla. – October 5, 2023 – HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, a 447-bed facility, and part of HCA Florida Healthcare, the largest healthcare system in the state, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark G. McKenney to the Board of Trustees.
Dr. McKenney joined HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in 2011 as the Chief of Trauma and in 2014 was the founding Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program. He’s currently the Chief of Trauma Surgery and the Program Director for the General Surgery Program. Dr. McKenney also served as the President and Chief of Medical Staff at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2022. Since 2018, Dr. McKenney has been on the Florida Trauma Systems Advisory Council for the Florida Department of Health.
Dr. McKenney was on the Low-Income Pool from 2007 to 2013 for the Healthcare Administration Agency of Florida, which distributed $1,000,000,000 ($1B) annually in healthcare funds via AHCA. Dr. McKenney has published five books and over three-hundred research articles. He has received over $4,000,000 in research funding. His research has been recognized both nationally and internationally, culminating in the Koster Memorial Award, given to the top scientists in North America. Twice his research has been recognized by Yearbook, which reviews over 12,000 publications and selects the top 150 articles. He is currently Professor of Surgery at the University of South Florida.
Dr. McKenney graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School. He did his surgical residency at William Beaumont Hospital and his fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami. After his training, he joined the University of Miami faculty working at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Ryder Trauma Center. Dr. McKenney rose through the ranks and became professor of Surgery. He also held a number of positions in Ryder Trauma Center including, Co-Director and then Medical Director. Dr. McKenney was the Chief of Surgery at the University of Miami Hospital from 2007-2011.
